CULTIVATE. EDUCATE. CELEBRATE.

The mission of the Food Bank Garden is to cultivate a community committed to local food production and increased local food security, through education and demonstration of high-altitude gardening techniques.

OBJECTIVES
  • Educate the community on sustainable, high-altitude gardening techniques

  • Encourage food security + self-reliance by growing fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs

  • Inspire the spread of more home gardens throughout the local community

  • Provide fresh, locally grown food to the Sierra Community House (formerly known as Project Mana)

  • Promote a beautiful + vibrant space for our community to enjoy

We have partnered with the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe and the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center to offer a series of FREE gardening classes each season. All participants will receive starter plants to take home for their own gardens.

COMMUNITY DIG-INS

Cancelled for 2020

Garden volunteers are encouraged to come on Harvest Mondays and Workday Wednesdays instead.

THE GARDEN IS LOCATED...

in the Truckee Regional Park. From Brockway Road, turn onto Estates Drive (at the Truckee Skate Park) and head straight into the park entrance (rather than following the road to the right).  Park there and follow the dirt path (indicated by the white footsteps below) that leads towards the "Music in the Park" venue.  All are welcome!

GARDEN PARTNERS & SPONSORS

Our work at the Garden would not be possible without the generous in-kind donations and generous support from our sponsors
