Events

Slow Food Lake Tahoe is undergoing a complete overhaul! We are still getting our feet under us but plan on holding fun, educational, and inspirational events throughout the year.

Quarterly, Seasonal Potlucks

Whether you are a member, interested in learning more about Slow Food, or just want to eat good food, please join us and bring a dish to share. We'd like all food to be seasonal in keeping with the Slow Food tradition.

Monthly Welcome Orientations

New members, old members, and all interested parties are welcome to attend. We plan on holding the orientations every 2nd Wednesday of the month at Dragonfly Restaurant in Old Town Truckee.

Movie Night

Our Events Committee is working on a venue and films. Some of the movies we've shown in the past include:
King Corn
Flow

Tastings

The Shaw Family farm generously donated 5 different heritage breed turkeys for a Heritage Breed Turkey Tasting at Baxter's Bistro in Dec 2009. In the summer months, we center around the garden: heirloom tomatoes and other fresh vegetables.

Dinner in the Barn series

Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner by the chefs of Moody’s and Baxter’s bistros in a 74-year old barn on the 65-acre Sierra Valley Farms. The chefs use whatever fresh vegetables are available that day from the farm as part of the menu. Guests are seated family-style in a rustic former hay and calving barn built in 1936. Prior to the dinner, guests can take a tour of the farm led by owner Gary Romano.

Held on various weekends June-Sept. For reservations, contact Moody’s at (530) 587-8688. The cost is around $70 per person, plus tax and tip. Discounts available for SFLT members.

Garden Tours

Growing vegetables and fruit in the mountains can be challenging, but it can be done. We organized a tour of 4 different gardens in Aug 2009, many with chickens.
